Microsoft has just announced that Office 2016, the next major release, will be available to the public later this year. The company says that it will be sharing more information about Office 2016 in the coming months. The software giant emphasizes that the suite of applications will continue to feature the Office experience you come to like using the keyboard and mouse, but now they are also optimized for touch-enabled devices and you’ll see a line of new features and improvements.
Office 2016 will feature touch-optimized versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook. All the apps are universal, as such they will run across all the range of Windows 10 devices, including on small screen devices such as phone and tablet, traditional PC, all the way to the brand new Microsoft Surface Hub.

The suite of Office 2016 apps will be free and they will come pre-installed on phones and small tablets running Windows 10. Those with other kind of Windows 10 devices will be able to download the apps from the Windows Store.

Windows Insiders will be getting the apps with the Windows 10 January Technical Preview “in the coming weeks” and the full version of suite will be available for everyone “later this year”.
