Microsoft Edge is now downloading on Windows 10 devices automatically through Windows Update. The new version of the browser based on the Chromium engine was originally available in January 2020, but to get it, users needed to download it manually from the Microsoft support site. However, the Edge browser is now rolling out via Windows Update.
According to the company, Microsoft Edge is available as an automatic update on devices already running Windows 10 version 1803, 1809, 1903, 1909, 2004, or higher. However, the software giant is slowly pushing the app, which means that it’ll take some time to reach everyone.
Once your device receives the Chromium version of the browser, the legacy version will be disabled, and you won’t be able to access it anymore.
Although there has been many improvements, such as the ability to sync extensions, switch profiles automatically, support for ARM64 processors, IE Mode for legacy webpages, Collections, and much more, the browser sill missing some key features like sync for open tabs and history that are planned to arrive in the coming months.
In addition, Microsoft is planning to bring sidebar search option, vertical tabs, and Pinterest integration for Collections.
Microsoft Edge will arrive automatically through Windows Update, but quality and feature updates will download and install from within the browser like Google Chrome.
