It’s coming folks, better late than never, according to a new report at LiveSide, the software giant is getting ready to include two-factor authentication to the Microsoft account.

Similar to Apple and Google, Microsoft account two-factor authentication means that in addition of entering your password at login, you’ll also have to provide a security code generated by an Authenticator app on your mobile phone. It is an extra step, but it’ll make your account a lot more secure, preventing from someone stealing your password easily.

Although the two-factor authentication brings a welcome security feature to the Microsoft account, it will not work with linked accounts, LiveSide says. Which means that you’re required to unlink the account before using the new verification technology. And there will be also a web version of the new security feature called “app password” for those apps and devices that do not support two-factor auth.

With the app already in the Windows Phone Store is clear that the new feature is coming, however Microsoft has yet to officially announce it. We know it will be soon, but not the exact date.
