What will you do when you need some important files from a computer but you forgot to carry any USB flash drives or data cables? You need not worry, in this article, we will walk you through a trick to copy files wirelessly. Here’s how to use Android as a wireless flash drive.
How to use Android as a wireless flash drive
An app called Pocketshare from AppCube lets you use your Android device as a wireless flash drive. This app uses Wi-Fi, so if you can’t find your cables or pen drives, you will still be able to transfer the file you need. Whenever you connect your device and your computer via Pocketshare, you will find it in the Explorer. You can just drag and drop the files you need. You will need to set up your devices first.
Setting up Windows
You will be running BAT files to set thing up in your Windows machine. When inside the app, go to Settings by tapping on the gear icon located at the top right corner. Tap on Configure Windows and note down the URL. It’ll look something like “192.168.1.8:8080\Pocketshare”. Now, on your computer, open up a browser and write down the URL and hit enter. Right click on the BAT file and select “Save link as”. Make sure you have selected “All Files” option when saving the BAT file.
Now you need to run the file. Double click on the BAT file to launch it. You may be prompted with a warning but choose to run anyways. If you see a window flash and then disappear, then the process is complete. Reboot your PC and you’re good to go.
Sharing files
When you need to share files, make sure both the devices are on the same Wi-Fi network. Then all you need to do is open up the app and the server will begin on its own. You may be ask to give permission for accessing media; just allow it. If you’re on a Windows machine, you will see your device in the Explorer. If you’re using Mac, look for your device on the Finders sidebar. You can simple drag and drop the files and it will be transferred. Refresh the Files tab on Pocketshare app and you will find the transferred files there.
This nifty app is easy to set up and use. Make sure you enable user authentication in the app’s settings to prevent unauthorized access.
